ALABASTER – Thompson’s Heath Haskins signed his letter of intent to attend Wallace State Community College on Jan. 15. The power-hitting outfielder has been a mainstay for the Warriors over the last few seasons, and will continue his baseball career just an hour away from home in Hanceville.

Haskins is a lifetime .333 hitter for the Warriors, and batted .390 in his junior season. He was a First Team All-Shelby County selection for a Thompson team that finished as the 7A runners-up in 2015. He finished with 57 hits, 35 RBIs, 42 runs scored and had six homers as well that year and was one of the most sure-handed outfielders in the state.

Thompson last season took down both Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills, the No. 2 and No. 1 teams in the state in 7A at the time in the opening rounds of the 7A state tournament before eventually falling to Smiths Station in the finals. Haskins will be one of the leaders on the 2016 team from his outfield position looking to make another run in the state tournament before he heads off to play at Wallace State.
