The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals has unanimously approved Grandview Medical Center’s Certificate of Need for the relocation and consolidation of existing oncology services to a new, freestanding comprehensive Cancer Center.

The CON Review Board granted Grandview a CON for the cancer center in May 2015 following a recommendation to approve the project by Administrative Law Judge Jim Ward. Brookwood Medical Center appealed the case to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, where the case was pending since June 2015.

“We are delighted to take this important step forward with the consolidation of our cancer services at Grandview and we appreciate the court’s ruling on this matter,” Grandview President and CEO Keith Granger wrote in a news release. “This project will allow consolidation of radiation therapy and other oncology related services into a single site, comprehensive center on Grandview’s 280 campus. We look forward to proceeding through the design and construction phase.”

The 372-bed Grandview Medical Center opened to the public in October 2015. The hospital offers a variety of care, from heart care to labor and delivery to robotic-assisted surgery.

The hospital’s specialized units include a level III trauma care center, a certified chest pain center, a stroke center, a cardiac cath lab and neonatal, surgical and medical intensive care center.
