HELENA–Helena High School senior Connor Romanowski was honored at the Jan. 25 Helena City Council meeting for recently earning his Eagle Scout rank.

An Eagle Scout rank is the highest achievement possible in the Boy Scouts of America program and only one percent of Boy Scouts attain the Eagle Scout rank.

Before earning an Eagle Scout rank, one must complete an Eagle Scout project to benefit the community.

Romanowski is a member of the HHS baseball team and last month finished constructing a large flagpole at the HHS baseball stadium that included a plaque and pavers.

Romanowski was presented with a certificate at the council meeting thanking him for his hard work and dedication to the city of Helena.

“Connor is a special guy to us,” said Helena Mayor Mark Hall. “He goes above and beyond for all kinds of things in this community and his family is well involved. We just wanted to bring him in here tonight and on behalf of the council and the city of Helena we want to recognize his achievement.”

Romanowski said it took him nearly a year to figure out what project he actually wanted to do to complete his Eagle Scout rank but was glad when he figured out what he actually wanted to do.

“The project will be to benefit the community and it means a little more to me since I play on the baseball team and it’s so close to something I love to do,” Romanowski said when constructing his project. “It will have my name on it for a long time.”

A flag raising ceremony was held on Dec. 12, 2015 to dedicate the new flagpole.

The American Legion Post from Pelham helped donate the American flag to Romanowski’s project and the city of Helena helped with the actual flagpole structure and digging the hole to place the pole in the ground.

Romanowski also presented Hall with one of the pavers from his project in return for the certificates he received from the city.

The next opportunity Romanowski’s project will be on display will be Monday, Feb. 15, when Helena baseball opens the season against Thompson.
