Shelby man charged with felony child sex abuse

SHELBY – A Shelby man has been charged with sexual abuse of a child younger than 12.
Roberto Ramos Mata, 54, who lists an address off Shelby County 47 in Shelby, was arrested on Jan. 25 and has been released from the Shelby County Jail since posting a $25,000 bond, with the condition that he is to have no contact with the victim.
According to court documents, Mata allegedly intentionally subjected a child younger than 12 to sexual contact between Sept. 2, 2014 and Sept. 2, 2015.
Sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 is a Class B felony. If convicted, Mata could face up to 20 years in prison.
