PLEASANT GROVE–The Helena Huskies girls basketball team finished the regular season on a high note as the Huskies got a quality road win against the Pleasant Grove Lady Spartans 57-42.

The Lady Huskies were led by Niya Oden’s 18 points that included three made three-pointers. Helena’s Jenn Brown also chipped in 14 points on the night.

Helena head coach Alan Skinner liked what he saw in the final game of the regular season.

“We played pretty well defensively,” said Skinner. “We used a lot of pressure and threw several different packages out there. We played unselfishly on offense and were able to play a complete wire-to-wire game with a pretty high level of focus and intensity, which is huge going into the area tournament.”

The Lady Spartans and Helena played a tight first quarter and the Lady Huskies took a one-point lead heading into the second quarter 10-9.

Helena’s defense stood tall in the second quarter, allowing the Lady Spartans to score just five points. With the stout defense, Helena was able to push its lead to 26-14 at the half.

The Lady Huskies never looked back and continued the momentum in the second half to preserve the 57-42 win.

Helena finished the regular season with a 16-9 overall record.

The Lady Huskies will begin Area Tournament play on Monday, Feb. 8 against the Calera Eagles at Central High School in Tuscaloosa.
