By JENNIFER MAIER / Community Columnist

Let me begin by saying I am so happy to take on the role of community columnist for Columbiana.

Since moving here with my husband, Craft Maier, I have been introduced to a world of wonderful people and I have been blessed to be part of this town.

When we moved to Columbiana in 2013 it didn’t take long for us to realize that there is always something going on in this town. We initially worried that we would have a hard time making friends and getting involved.

So, in an effort to find our place, we just jumped right in and starting looking for ways to be involved.
Before long we were making friends and settling in quickly.

I often jokingly refer to Columbiana as the “little bubble” that I live in.

For some, living in a bubble may seem too restrictive, but for me this is where I am most content.

I love that my bubble contains a vibrant arts scene thanks to the Shelby County Arts Council.

I love that we have a wonderful library that offers great programming for the community.

I love that we have a community full of fascinating people doing wonderful things.

And, as Executive Director of the Shelby County Museum & Archives, I truly love that we have two outstanding museums within walking distance of each other.

When I was asked to take on this role as community columnist I was somewhat nervous.

After all, Phoebe Robinson is not an easy act to follow!

In her time as columnist, Phoebe has served this community with all her heart.

I thank her for all she has done to tell the stories of the people, places and events of this wonderful town and the surrounding communities.

Columbiana is a busy little town, and I don’t want to miss out on covering any upcoming events.

That being said, I am currently on the look-out for stories and I would love to hear your suggestions. Please contact me and let me know how I can cover the stories you want to read about.
