ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Council is now accepting applications from those interested in serving on the Alabaster Board of Education, and will do so through late March, council members recently announced.

Each year, the City Council votes to either reappoint a current School Board member or to appoint a new member to the board on a rotating basis.

Over the past few years, the City Council has reappointed School Board President Adam Moseley through June 2017, School Board member Ty Quarles through June 2018, School Board member John Myrick through June 2019 and School Board member Derek Henderson to a term ending in 2020.

BOE member Linda Church, who is an original member of the School Board, currently is serving a term ending in June of this year.

Between now and Friday, March 25, the City Council will accept applications from those interested in serving on the School Board. After reviewing the applications, the council will vote in April to either reappoint Church or to appoint a new BOE member to her place.

The individual appointed in April will serve on the School Board until 2021.

Those interested in serving on the school board should visit Cityofalabaster.com/residents/city-of-alabaster-school-board-application/.

Applicants must be Alabaster residents, and must be able to attend regular monthly School Board meetings and any special-called meetings.

On the city’s website, applicants will be able to attach a résumé and a cover letter detailing their specific qualifications for the School Board. All final School Board applicants are subject to a background check and drug screening.
