Helena goes 2-1 to open the Birmingham/Huntsville Baseball Challenge

Second-inning rally sparks 11-3 win for Helena

A nine-run explosion in the second inning hoisted Helena to an 11-3 win in seven innings over James Clemens at Helena on Friday, Feb. 19. Helena scored in the second on an RBI single by Connor Romanowski, an error resulted in two runs scored, an RBI single by Nash Adams, an RBI single by Riley Davis, an RBI single by Sam Praytor, a two-run double by Troy Cordrey and an RBI single by Robbie Lively.

Davis racked up two RBIs on two hits for Helena and Huskies pitcher Brett Walton got the win for Helena thanks to eight strikeouts.

Walton allowed one earned run on four hits and no walks over five innings.

James Clemens Caleb Caple was the game’s losing pitcher. He allowed nine runs in 1.2 innings pitched.

Helena blasts Buckhorn 10-3

Helena used a big fifth inning to help propel the Huskies to a 10-3 win over Buckhorn on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Helena scored six-runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Jake Busby, an RBI double by Nick Ragsdale, a two-run double by Jameson Ling and a two-run single by Riley Davis.

Sam Praytor tallied three RBIs on one hit after blasting a three-run homerun in the third inning for Helena.

Brooks Freeman got the win on the mound for the Huskies. He allowed just one run over five innings while surrendering six hits. Kyle Davis was the losing pitcher for Buckhorn after allowing seven runs in 4.1 innings.

Oxford hands Helena first loss of tournament

Despite outhitting Oxford 10-8, Helena fell to Oxford 6-3 in the third game of the Birmingham/Huntsville Tournament.

Up 2-1 heading to the fourth inning, Oxford plated three more runs to extend their lead to 5-1.

The runs came after Austin Bolander singled, scoring Caden Higgins. Brody Syer then singled to score Bolander.

Bolander went 3-4 from the plate, collecting three hits, two runs and an RBI to lead the Yellow Jackets.
