The Shelby County Arts Council welcomes Harpeth Rising, a folk trio from Louisville, Ky., to the Black Box Theatre on Friday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
The three vocalists, all graduates of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, are Jordana Greenberg on violin, Rebecca Reed-Lunn on banjo and Maria Di Meglio on cello. With powerful, expansive three-part harmonies and only three instruments on stage, the group produces a sound generally created by a much larger ensemble.
The classically trained women of Harpeth Rising play folk, roots, classical bluegrass and rock.
They combine original, gritty lyrics and three-part vocals with violin, banjo, cello and foot-percussion.
Touring internationally from their base in Louisville, Ky., they also have performed at the Kerrville Folk Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival and London Folk Festival.
Opening the performance will be Birmingham singer-songwriter Raquel Lily.
All seating is general admission. Tickets are available online at the Shelby County Arts Council or at the Black Box Theatre office at 104 Mildred Street, Columbiana, AL 35051. For additional information, call 669-0044.
