HELENA–At approximately 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 29, the Helena Police Department responded to a call of an injured person in the 200 block of Shelby County 93, according to a department press release.

Upon arrival, officers learned that the homeowner arrived home while the residence was being burglarized.

The homeowner was injured during an altercation with the suspect and the suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

HPD confirmed the suspect was reportedly armed with a handgun and at least one shot was fired but it is unknown if the victim was struck by gunfire or injured in the altercation in another way.

HPD has released a description of the suspect who has been described as a short and stocky white male with blue eyes and wearing a plaid shirt. He fled the scene in a faded grey small car believed to be a four door.

Police believe the suspect may have selected the residence for a burglary because of its isolation and the fact that it is not in a neighborhood or subdivision.

If anyone has any information, they are urged to contact Helena Police at 663-6499.

The case is currently an ongoing investigation.
