The Alabaster Police Department arrested Christy Leann Judd, who lists an address on Fourth Avenue Northwest in Alabaster, on March 1 and charged her with three felony counts of willful child abuse and three misdemeanor counts of child abandonment.

Willful child abuse is a Class C felony, and carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, and child abandonment is a Class A misdemeanor, carrying a maximum sentence of up to a year in the Shelby County Jail.

According to Judd’s arrest warrant, she was responsible for caring for a 13-year-old child, a 14-year-old child and a 17-year-old child. In February, Judd allegedly “willfully maltreated” the three children, leading to her child abuse charges.

Her arrest warrants also claim she abandoned all three children in Alabaster in February, leading to her trio of child abandonment charges.

Alabaster Police Department Lt. Grant Humphries said the arrests came after officers conducted a welfare check on the three children at a residence in the city.

“She had left them there for a period of time that we deemed as abandonment,” Humphries said, noting Judd is the biological mother of one of the children and was the guardian of the other two.

After Judd was arrested, the three children were placed in the care of the Shelby County Department of Human Resources.

As of March 2, Judd was being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $24,000. She did not yet have a future court date listed.
