The Evangel Christian baseball Lightning took on New Life Christian twice over the weekend, and lost both times by final scores of 15-4 and 14-3, which moved the Lightning to 2-5 overall on the young season.

Game 1. Evangel 4 – New Life 15

After playing the first six innings of the first game against New Life, Evangel gave up 11 runs in the eighth inning, and fell by a final of 15-4. The Lightning used five pitchers on the day in Jacob Albright, Austin Simmons, Zac Helton, Josh Lau and Seth Harrison. Albright pitched the majority of the game, throwing six innings, giving up one run on four hits and striking out eight before being relieved.

Evangel held a 3-0 lead over New Life after five innings of play. Hahn Hahn Lau scored twice and Helton scored once as well in the first three innings to give Evangel the early lead before the wheels fell off late.

Game 2. Evangel 3 – New Life 14

In the second game of the doubleheader, New Life slowly and surely built a commanding lead, as the visiting team scored two runs, five runs, two runs, three runs and two runs in the first five innings to build an insurmountable lead. The Lightning scored one run in third, fourth and fifth innings, however the offense was much too little much too late, as Evangel fell to 2-5.

Lau started the game on the mound for Evangel, and lasted 2.1 innings before being relieved by Satcher Wells, who lasted 1.2 innings before Max Shaw came in to close the final inning. The three gave up 11 hits total. Cameron Kimbrel led the way from the plate for Evangel in the second game, going 2-for-2 from the plate with a double.
