Janet Williams Spruiell
Janet Williams Spruiell was called home Sunday, March 13.
Janet is survived by her husband, Billy Spruiell; son, Matthew William Spruiell; daughter-in-law, Katrina Wilson Spruiell; and infant grandson Matthew William Spruiell, Jr. She is also survived by her mother, Lola (Peggy) Parson Williams, and sister, Paulette Williams; nephew, Ross Brasher (Alyssa); brother-in-law, Scott Spruiell (Jamie); and niece Megan Holmes (Stephen).
She was preceded in death by her father, Johnnie Irby Williams.
Janet was born Sept. 2, 1950, in Clanton. She was raised in Chelsea and attended Auburn University. She taught 8th grade English at Columbiana Middle School for 25 years, and then worked in educational sales for the past 16 years.
She will be remembered for her kindness, devotion to her family, her love for animals, and her strong belief in the importance of education and literacy.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to her many friends and colleagues who have expressed their sympathy and support through the last few weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (Gbhs.org/donate/) or to her grandson’s college trust fund in her memory (Crowdrise.com/janets-gift-to-will/fundraiser/janetsgifttowill ).
Her visitation and memorial service will be held Thursday, March 17 at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Leeds. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. and the service will follow at noon.
