ALABASTER – The Alabaster City School System took time during a recent meeting to honor employees who work behind-the-scenes each day to handle everything from student transportation to building maintenance and counseling services.

During the city Board of Education’s March 14 meeting, ACS Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers and School Board members honored the school district’s Support Personnel of the Year.

“As we honor our Support Personnel of the Year, this is the best possible time the board members can have at a meeting,” Vickers said.

Over the past few months, employees at each Alabaster school chose their school’s Support Person of the Year, and nominated the honoree for the district’s overall Support Person of the Year award.

The following individuals were named Support Person of the Year at each school:

-Creek View Elementary School: Child Nutrition Program Manager Joyce Jackson

-Meadow View Elementary School: Facilities maintenance manager Phillip Harper

-Thompson Intermediate School: Custodian Glenda Frederick

-Thompson Sixth Grade Center: Paraprofessional Beth Vincent

-Thompson Middle School: Secretary Leigh Reeves

-Thompson High School: Custodian Anthony Lacey

In addition to the individual school winners, the following individuals received districtwide awards:

-Counselor of the Year: Karen Snyder

-Child Nutrition Program Person of the Year: Tracy Reed

-Bus Driver of the Year: Belinda Oden

-Child Nutrition Program Manager of the Year: Loretta Bunn

After receiving nominations from each school the Alabaster City Schools central office chose one nominee as the school system’s overall Support Person of the Year. Thompson High School’s custodian Anthony Lacey earned this year’s overall award, and received a standing ovation during the School Board meeting.

“You won’t find a more humble person,” ACS Coordinator of Operations Jeff Atkins said of Lacey. “He is a phenomenal worker.”
