ALABASTER – Thompson High School’s majorettes and Warriorettes dance team took center stage during a recent Alabaster Board of Education meeting, as they were recognized for their achievements during the 2015-2016 school year.

During the “Good things happening in our schools” segment of the School Board’s March 14 meeting, ACS Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers recognized members and coaches from the two teams and praised them for a successful season.

“We are so grateful to have the opportunity to recognize our students and teachers,” Vickers said. “It’s no surprise that their hard work has led to such success.”

During competitions this season, the majorettes received the Auxiliary Champions and Choreography award at the American All-Star Southeast Regional Dance and Auxiliary Championships, were named School Majorette Grand Champions and School Halftime Grand Champions at Twirltacular Mardi Gras and were named School Majorette Champions for the second-straight year at the Amateur Athletic Union Southeast District Twirl Championships.

-Sarah Talley

 

Talley also earned first place in freestyle twirl and third place in showtwirl at the AAU championships. Patterson earned third place in freestyle twirl and first place in showtwirl at the competition.

The Warriorettes also saw success this year, earning second place in pom and fifth place in kick at the Universal Dance Association Alabama State Championships. The team also was named pom champions, kick champions, overall sweepstakes champions and techniques champions at the American All-Star Southeast Regional Dance and Auxiliary Championships and was named pom and kick champions at the National Dance Alliance Hoover Spirit Championships.
