FROM STAFF REPORTS

PELHAM- It’s been at least 10 years since the last time the Briarwood boys tennis team walked away as Shelby County Champions in Tennis, but the drought ended this week.  The Lions used a true team effort, with a strong push from the middle of their lineup to out last Oak Mountain by three points.

It came down to the last two doubles matches.  Briarwood needed to win just one court to take the championship. Juniors Christian Ragsdale and Bennett Davis won the second court championship, defeating Thompson  6-1, 6-1 to push the Lions over the top for the team championship.

Ragsdale added a fourth court championship in singles, and senior Reed Hodges added a fifth court championship in singles to lead the team.
