ALABASTER – Students at Alabaster’s two elementary schools took time to honor local heroes ranging from principals to school nurses and police officers during a pair of March 24 Super Citizen celebrations.

Through the Liberty’s Legacy Super Citizen program, second-graders at Meadow View Elementary School and Creek View Elementary School presented “torch pins” shaped like the Statue of Liberty to several adults who give back to the community.

Several weeks ago, the schools began the Super Citizen program with kickoff events at their schools. Since then, each second-grade class at the two schools has identified a local hero they consider to be a Super Citizen.

“They have identified qualities that are helpful and kind,” said Liberty’s Legacy employee Kristin Sharp. “We believe that when you honor a hero, you become a hero.”

The two ceremonies involved more than 400 students and more than 20 honorees who received time in the spotlight for their good deeds.
