HHS hosting substance abuse parenting summit

HELENA–Parents who have children attending any of the Helena schools will have the opportunity to attend a free informational meeting on substance abuse and current drug trends to stay informed while hearing from a variety of speakers.

A Parenting Summit on substance abuse will be held Thursday, April 7 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Helena High School auditorium.

The Shelby County Drug Free Coalition is partnering with Shelby County Schools, Helena High School, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office and the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force to sponsor the free event.

The hour-long summit will feature speakers such as Shelby County Schools Superintendent Randy Fuller, Shelby County District Attorney Jill Lee, Assistant District Attorney Alan Miller and Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force Commander Clay Hammac.

Parents may arrive as early as 6 p.m. to gather information from various organizations throughout Shelby County. The informational tables will be set up from 6-6:30 p.m.

The purpose behind the Parenting Summit is to bring to light the current dangers and drug trends that have infiltrated Shelby County and inform parents on current drugs and trends they might not know about.

The Parenting Summit has already visited other high schools within Shelby County including Thompson High School and Oak Mountain High School.
