ALABASTER—The name and logo may be different, but the patient-centered care at Brookwood Baptist Health System will remain unchanged, Brookwood Baptist Health-Shelby Baptist Medical Center CEO Bob Phillips said during an April 5 brand unveiling ceremony.

The final piece of the merger—the new brand image—was revealed nearly a year and a half after the merger was first announced.

“This is a day that has been a long time coming,” Phillips said, noting the merger was announced in December 2014 and finalized in October 2015. “Today we can share our new name and a brand that represents Alabama’s largest acute care system.”

The new logo features three interlocking rings, one yellow, one blue and one orange. The three rings represent the three entities that created the Brookwood Baptist Health System: Shelby Baptist Health System, Brookwood Medical Center and Tenet Healthcare.

The logo was inspired in part by Ecclesiastes 4:12, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

It was also inspired by the Brookwood Baptist Health System employees and their commitment to patients, Phillips said.

“It’s a focus on that circle around the patient,” Phillips said. “Everything we do needs to be around the patient.”

The merger allows for “collaboration and shared resources to take (care) to the next level,” Phillips added.

Brookwood Baptist Health System encompasses five hospitals in Birmingham, Alabaster, Jasper and Talladega; a freestanding emergency department on U.S. 280 in Hoover; and 76 locations including health centers, physician practices and imaging centers.

Phillips said patients can expect to receive the same quality of care they’re used to at Brookwood Baptist Health System locations.

“From a day-to-day basis, they’re going to continue to work with the same excellent nurses and doctors,” Phillips said.
