Man, 22, charged with dealing marijuana

COLUMBIANA – A 22-year-old Alabaster man has been released from the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $30,000 after he was arrested and charged with allegedly distributing marijuana on multiple separate occasions.
The Calera Police Department arrested Scott Theroux Benton, who lists an address on Treymoor Drive in Alabaster, and charged him with three felony counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
Unlawful distribution of a controlled substance is a Class B felony, and carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years if convicted.
According to Benton’s arrest warrant, he allegedly distributed marijuana on the following occasions:
-On March 31 from his Alabaster residence
-Again on March 31 from his Alabaster residence
-On April 17 on Shelby County 87 in Calera
Benton was released from the Shelby County Jail the day after he was arrested after posting bonds totaling $30,000.
He has already had his initial appearance in Shelby County Circuit Court, and is now set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on May 18 at 8:30 a.m. at the Shelby County Courthouse.
