Summer camps coming to Thompson

ALABASTER – Summer is, at long last, finally within reach. The spring sports season officially ended on May 21 with the 7A softball state title game, and now we begin to look towards a relatively blank sports landscape ahead over the next few months. While the summer is no doubt a time of much-deserved rejuvenation and rest for teachers and coaches, Thompson High School is making sure to continue to give its youth the opportunity to stay involved with the school through the form of multiple summer sports camps options.

Beginning on May 31, running through the month of June and into the month of July, Thompson is offering summer camp programs to students in grades K-upcoming seventh graders, which will cover a wide range of sport options.

“The goal is definitely to connect with athletes in our feeder schools,” Thompson High School Athletic Director Vincent Pitts said of the summer camps. “We want to begin to develop kids at a young age and establish relationships with those kids and their families.”

The first camps of the summer will be the baseball and girls volleyballs camps, which will both start on May 31. The baseball camp will run through June 2 while the girls volleyball camp will end on June 3. The baseball camp costs $80 for the week while the girls volleyball camp cost $150 before May 25, and cost $170 after May 25.

Camps are offered for six sports and include baseball, basketball, football, cheerleading, soccer and volleyball. The camps are designed as “fun, interactive, instructional camps for all ages,” per the Thompson athletic website, Thompsonwarriors.org.

Varsity athletes will also be present at all camps to help, according to Pitts. All camps are for student in grades K-upcoming seventh graders, and camp costs vary depending on the camp, but all include a T-shirt as well.
