HELENA–After many pages and numerous books later, the Helena summer reading program came to a close on Wednesday, July 13, as kids of all ages came to Jane B. Holmes public library one last time for a closeout celebration.
The theme for this summer’s reading program was “On your mark, get set, read,” and many of the programs were centered on the upcoming Olympic games happening in August.
For the closeout celebration on July 13, the library was transformed into a game room that had a variety of Olympic themed events for kids to do to celebrate the end of summer reading.
Some of the games included a long toss, air tennis with a paddle and a balloon, a discus throw with rings, bean bag archery, ping pong javelin and a commemorative photo booth.
The room was also decorated with Olympic rings, torches, stars and streamers that hung from the ceiling.
After the summer reading participants finished competing in all the games, they had a surprise waiting for them outside to cool off on a hot July day.
The Kona Ice truck provided kids with free shaved ice, which was easily the most popular attraction at the closeout party.
Summer reading participant Marcy Collins was enjoying her shaved ice and said, “I enjoyed all of it,” when asked what was her favorite part about the closeout party.
The Jane B. Holmes public library is located at 230 Tucker Road and is open six days a week.
