Cahaba Valley Fire and EMR District is showing its support for law enforcement by turning the lights at Station 181 blue.

Beginning July 20 and through the end of the month, all outside lights at the station will be blue 24 hours a day, Safety Officer Grant Wilkinson said.

“We hope to not only show our support to our brothers and sisters in law enforcement but to also give them a safe place to come and rest, do reports, or just to visit,” Wilkinson said. “While they are with us, we will have their back and for a short period of time they can let down their defenses and rest.”

The station is located at 5487 Highway 280.

Lt. Stephen Gaither brought the idea for the blue lights to the chief and officers after seeing Sylacauga Fire Department make a similar effort.

All agreed it was an “excellent” way to show support, Wilkinson said.

Blue replacement bulbs were purchased and installed for all outdoor lights at the station.

“We have had several Shelby County deputy sheriffs come by the station while we have had our lights blue,” Wilkinson said. “The community at large has supported our show of support through sharing our post on our Facebook page.”
