PELHAM – Pelham YMCA will host its 2016 Fall Golf Classic on Sept. 22 at Timberline Golf Club in Calera.

The tournament will have two flights, one beginning at 8 a.m. the other at 1 p.m., said YMCA Executive Director Jason Beasley.

Beasley said the tournament can accommodate up to 40 teams, or 160 players. He hopes to raise $11,000 to go toward funding for the YMCA Annual Campaign, which aims to raise money to provide support for YMCA services and programs.

The money supports education initiatives, special programs for people struggling with health issues, college and career prep for teens, senior citizen programs and financial assistance to individuals and families in the community that cannot afford these services, Beasley said.

Beasley said 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to supporting the children and families served by the YMCA.

The Annual Campaign’s overall goal is to raise $85,500 in 2016. Beasley said most of the funding comes from donations from businesses and community members.

The deadline to sign up for the tournament is Sept. 21, and costs $150 for individual players and $600 for teams of four.

The tournament is the only one in the state that serves as a qualifier for the Hyundai Invitational Tournament.

The overall winning team will select two players to represent them in an all-expenses paid trip as national finalists in the Hyundai Invitational Tournament held in Las Vegas. The trip carries a value of up to $3,500, which will be paid for by Hyundai.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place winners in each flight. Hole in one prizes include a new Hyundai Genesis, golf clubs and a $500 TaylorMade gift certificate.

Closest to the pin and longest drive winners will each receive a $150 cash prize and the winner of the chipping and putting challenge will receive a free round of golf at Timberline Golf Club.
