Rolling Mill Quarters. In order to attract and keep good workers, most Alabama coal and iron companies furnished housing for their employees with nominal rent. Most places were often dismal, but that was not the case with the rolling mill at Helena. The houses in this 1913 photo were destroyed in the great 1933 tornado with loss of life.
