Mary “MaMaw” Cox Bishop, age 78, of Calera, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 24.

She was born in Fort Payne and graduated from Sylacauga High School. She worked as a dental hygienist for over 50 years, the majority spent at the office of Dr. Morris Hollis and Dr. Rick Redmond in Sylacauga; and currently worked for Dr. Stephen Stricklin in Alabaster. She was an active member of Calera Baptist Church and a faithful prayer warrior.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dan Bishop; parents, John Ralph Cox and Jessie Henderson Cox; brother-in-law, Martin Coffee; and nephew, Ricky Gay.

“MaMaw” is survived by her children, Danny Bishop (Dena) of Lineville, DeeDee Warren (Dr. Hal Warren) of Calera, and Paul Bishop (Susie) of Sylacauga; grandchildren, Julia Mayhew (Ronnie), Jonathan Warren, Jenifer Stewart (Andy), Stephanie Kelley, and Matthew Bishop; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Betty Coffee, Wayne Cox (Carolyn), Helen Cooner (Hollis) and Randy Cox (Glenda).

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 6-8 p.m. at Calera Baptist Church. Her celebration of life will be held at the church on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. Her graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Calera Baptist Building Fund.
