Pelham heavy trash pickup set for Oct. 1

PELHAM – Heavy trash pickup for the city of Pelham will be on Oct. 1. Residents must have all of their heavy trash curbside by 6 a.m., and no item may be more than 300 pounds or 6 feet long.
Items are to be placed no more than 4 feet away from the curb and overhead obstacles.
Items not accepted include: needles or medical waste, refrigerators, televisions, freezers, stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, hot water heaters, tires, oil, batteries, engine blocks, window air conditioning units, riding lawnmowers, bug spray and paint cans with liquid paint.
Hazardous waste is also unacceptable. It includes items that are radioactive, volatile, corrosive, highly flammable, explosive, biomedical, infectious, bio-hazardous, toxic or other listed or characteristic hazardous waste as defined by federal, state, provincial or local law.
Accepted items include: grills with gas or propane tanks removed, push lawnmowers with gas tank removed, furniture, mattresses, vacuum cleaners, auto interior parts, picnic tables, dismantled swing sets, bicycles and general debris.
Paint cans are accepted but they must be set aside form other trash for inspection. The tops of paint cans must be removed and placed next to the can and the paint must be dry or hardened. Paint cans with liquid or wet paint must be filled with cat litter.
If items can be recycled or donated, residents are asked to try those options before discarding the items.
