Shirley Ann Baxter Goad, born Feb. 19, 1937, in Davenport, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 1, in Columbiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Verle and Wilma Baxter, and her granddaughter, Rachel Manzano.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin Goad, Columbiana, and daughters Jane (Dan) Bayse of Trussville, Lynn (Keith) Maxey of Greeley, Colo., and Gaye (Mike) Trettel of Fultondale. Shirley had six grandchildren, Stephanie (Dusty) Hart, John (Shelley) Futrell, Joshua (Rosemay) Manzano, Sara (Eric) Wilson, Ben Manzano and Adam Trettel. Her eight great-grandchildren are Nathan, Hanna, Emilie, Hunter, Kinley, Caleb, Beckett and Hannah. Siblings Pat (Ron) Rebal-Baxter of LeClaire, Iowa, and Kent Baxter (Caren Grady) of Davenport, Iowa, also survive Shirley.

Shirley graduated from Davenport High School and attended Moline Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. Shirley and Marvin married on Feb. 10, 1957 and they worked together in Christian ministry many years, while Shirley was a pastor’s wife, schoolteacher and medical secretary.

Shirley trusted in the Lord to be her Savior in 1967, being led to the Lord by Marvin. Marvin was her faithful caretaker for many years as she persevered through many health problems. Shirley will be remembered for her love and commitment for her family and her Lord, her intelligence and her quick wit even in the direst of circumstances.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their loving care, kindness and support, especially Lauren Tyson, Sotoya Henderson and Kathaleen Perkins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at Wilton Bible Baptist Church, 293 Stephens Street, Wilton, with Rev. Tom Hammett, Sr. officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family is respectfully asking for donations toward funeral costs. Donations may be made at any Regions Bank Branch.
