AUBURN – Brooklyn Holt is living her dream at Auburn University.
Holt, a Shelby County native and 2015 Oak Mountain High School graduate, was crowned Miss Auburn University 2017 on Oct. 8 in the culmination of a “Fabulous 50s” themed pageant at the Telfair B. Peet Theatre.
“I only applied to Auburn and always wanted to go to school here, so being Miss Auburn University is a huge dream come true,” said Holt, a sophomore studying journalism and political science.
Miss Auburn University is a preliminary to Miss Alabama, which will be held in June 2017.
Holt said this is her fifth year in the Miss America program, which requires her to stay up to date on current events, hone her vocal talent and stay physically fit as an Auburn majorette.
“I’ve been preparing for a long time now,” she said.
Between now and the Miss Alabama pageant, Holt will stay busy with public appearances, representing AU, working with the university’s SGA, serving the campus and community, and promoting her platform: “Raise Your Voice for Children.”
Holt said Alabama is the highest-ranked state in the country for homeless children, so she will hold concerts to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network.
Holt sang “Don’t Forget Me” from the TV series SMASH as her talent for Miss Auburn University.
The pageant also included on-stage questions, swimsuit and evening wear competitions, and interviews with judges that were held prior to the event.
Holt’s sponsors included Tiger Rags, AU Majorettes and Northcutt Realty.
As the pageant’s winner, Holt received full tuition for a year, an Auburn diamond necklace, free hair care for a year and various gift cards.
