Mr. Joe J. Chiarella, age 92, of Pelham, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 7.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Mary Chiarella, and his siblings, Sarah Monte, Ben Chiarella, Paul Chiarella, Mary Costanza, Ann Graffeo, Marian “Buddy” Mareno.

He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army and reaching the rank of Sergeant. He was the owner and operator of Oddo Save-A-Stop serving the community for 35 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy, Italian-American club and the American Legion. He was also a former member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for many years.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 31 years, Mrs. Nancy Chiarella; daughter, Mary Rose DeArman (Larry); son, Jackie Chiarella; daughter, Lisa Acton; and his only grandchild, Samantha Jo Acton.

A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service from noon – 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery. Monsignor Roland will officiate the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, family suggest donations be made to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
