“We are looking for any ornaments people have,” said city volunteer Ron Holly. “If people have old ornaments they aren’t using anymore or if any kids would like to make some ornaments to hang on the tree, they are more than welcome to come by and decorate.”

Holly said a Christmas tree was donated to the city in 2015, and members of the community were invited to decorate the tree.

“We didn’t really have a great response last year,” Holly said. “I don’t know if word just didn’t get out or what, but we had a few families come and put ornaments. We are asking families to come out again this year and decorate if they would like to, and help make the tree look nice.”

Holly said the tree is located in an area near the Caboose that is easily accessible for anyone interested in decorating.

The tree is roughly 7.5 feet tall, and Holly said is easily seen from the road for anyone traveling through Old Town Helena.

Holly put the tree up the day after Thanksgiving and said it will not come down until the first of January.

Individuals interested in placing decorations on the tree can decorate at any time of day, without making an appointment with Holly.

“Whenever they want to come, they can,” Holly said. “Helena is really good about supporting community functions in this way. It is nice because it gets the community involved and allows for people that live here to feel like it is their tree if they can help decorate it.”

The Caboose is located directly across the street from the Depot Deli and Grill.
