The Bessemer Police Department is investigating the apparent homicide of a 21-year-old Alabaster man.

On Sunday, Jan. 8 at 4 a.m., officers were responding to an unrelated call when they observed a traffic accident in the 3400 block of Ninth Avenue North.

Julian Garcia of Alabaster was found lying outside of one of the vehicles. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen.

Detectives and officers searched the area, and discovered multiple shell casings in the parking lot of a nearby bar. A press release from the Bessemer Police Department said detectives are currently investigating the possibility that Garcia may have been shot on the bar’s property.

“Detectives are still out interviewing potential witnesses and trying to find any leads,” Sgt. Cortice Miles said. “At this time, we haven’t arrested anyone yet.”

Paramedics transported Garcia to UAB West Hospital shortly after we was found. He was pronounced dead at 4:35 a.m.
