HOOVER – Fifteen Spain Park High School student-athletes signed to play college sports on Wednesday, Feb. 1, what has come to be known as National Signing Day.

SPHS Athletic Director Patrick Kellogg welcomed the students, family and friends in attendance—and special guests including Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato and Superintendent of Education Kathy Murphy.

The signees took turns taking the stage along with relatives and coaches. Each signed a letter of intent or scholarship document, donned a ball cap with their future team’s logo on the front and then smiled for pictures.

“It’s great to see our young people do what they do best,” Kellogg said. “It always gives us great pride to see you go off to college. Go make us proud.”

A breakfast reception was held at the school after the ceremony.

“It’s a celebration for everything they’ve done,” Kellogg said. “We think it is important for them to have their moment.”

In addition to the students’ hard work, Kellogg also commended Spain Park’s coaches for their efforts in promoting the school’s athletes to college programs across the country.
