Venue 31 officially opens in Pelham
PELHAM – The Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Pelham’s newest events venue, Venue 31, on Thursday, April 27.
Venue 31 is located at 3150 Lee St. on the same property where haunted house attraction Warehouse 31 is located. Both businesses are owned by Jason Sills.
Sills said renovations to the building, to turn it into an events facility, began in January. Walls were built, heating and cooling was installed, the restrooms were remodeled and the floors were treated and stained.
Warehouse 31 will be housed on the back of the property. The interior of the facility was transformed from a warehouse space to a ballroom-room type space.
Sills said after allowing some events to be held at the facility during the haunted house’s off-season, he soon realized that there was a demand for an events venue in Pelham.
“Once I realized that there was a demand, I wanted to put more money into it as an independent business,” Sills said. “It’s truly separate from the haunted house. If you didn’t already know that there was a haunted house out back, you wouldn’t be able to tell by walking into Venue 31.”
Venue 31 will operate year round. Sills said there has already been a lot of community interest in the facility.
“We’re already booked every weekend in June, and we have events booked as far away as February 2018,” Sills said. “It’s a vision I’ve had for a while and to see it come to fruition is a great joy.”
Venue 31 is ideal for receptions, conventions, luncheons, birthday and anniversary parties and wedding and baby showers. Sills said Venue 31 has received a lot of support from the Hispanic community and has become been a popular location for quinceañeras – a coming-of-age party for a girl’s 15th birthday.
Venue 31 can also provide tables and chairs, audio and video elements and a list of vendors for renters to use. Venue 31 is open to most items and renters are free to decorate however they’d like. Renters may also bring their own bands and DJs.
