Elliston Lyle “Butch” Grizzle

Elliston Lyle “Butch” Grizzle, 70, of Vandiver, passed away Wednesday, May 3.

He was born in Alton, Illinois to Elliston (“Pete”), and Dorothy (“Dot”) Grizzle. He grew up in Birmingham from 1953 until death. He married Shirley Ballard in 1969 and worked at Vulcan Metal Products for 20 years, and numerous other companies following their closing.

He played baseball with Birmingham Amateur Baseball Federation, and then with Leeds Amateur Softball. He was a coach to many softball teams, and also worked at Charles Banks Softball Complex.

He was a member of Ashville Road Church of Christ. He was loved by everyone!

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Ballard) Grizzle; his sons and their wives, Danny and Brandie, and Chad and Maisie; sister, Diane Grizzle; and grandchildren, Lillian Mae, Robert, Jacob, Ashlyn, and Lindsey.

He is also survived by many children close to him including Tammy Graham, and Carmen Anders, and too many other family members to name.

He was close to everyone he ever met, including family, friends, and ball players. He will be truly missed.
