Pedestrian struck, killed on U.S. 280

NORTH SHELBY – A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed while crossing U.S. 280 early on the morning of Sunday, June 25.
The incident occurred about 4 a.m. in the 4600 Block of U.S. 280, near the River Ridge shopping center that includes Target and Best Buy, according to Lt. Sean Edwards with the Birmingham Police Department, which is investigating the incident.
Edwards said the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing, and there was “very poor or no illumination” on the roadway.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Edwards said.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.
No charges have been filed or are expected, Edwards said.
