HOOVER – The Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce’s 22nd Annual Golf Classic will tee off on Monday, Aug. 28, at Riverchase Country Club.

Chamber Executive Director Bill Powell said the golf tournament has consistently been the organization’s most significant revenue producer other than dues.

“We have raised as much as $25,000 with the bigger tournaments but always make at least $15,000,” Powell said. “Naturally, we’re hoping for closer to $25,000 for this year.

“Although the money raised is not earmarked, it goes into our general fund, and we have issued over $200,000 in scholarships since starting our scholarship programs.”

The event’s title sponsor is St. Vincent’s Health System, but the Chamber is looking for a sponsor for the luncheon and breakfast as the previous sponsor for those events was not able to continue this year, Powell said.

Other sponsorships are also still available, at levels ranging from Platinum ($2,500) to Hole sponsors ($300).

“We place a standard sponsor-sized sign on each hole with a color logo of the sponsor,” Powell said about the sponsorships. “We also list all sponsors on the large sign we post at registration, and the luncheon, and verbally thank all the sponsors. We also post the large sign at the following luncheon in September. Sponsors can register as late as one week before the tournament.”

The tournament will have a four-man scramble format with a putting contest from 7-8:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

Costs are $200 for an individual player, $375 for a twosome $650 for a foursome.

Mulligans and raffle tickets will also be sold. A Power Pack including two mulligans, two raffle tickets and one putting contest ticket will be sold for $25.

At least 100 players usually participate, Powell said, with a high of 132.

“So far this year, with 3-plus weeks remaining, we’re at 106 signed up,” Powell said. “128 is the ‘perfect number’ with one foursome starting on each Par 3 hole (there are four), and two foursomes starting on each of the other holes.”

Anyone interested in playing or sponsorship should visit HooverChamber.org and look for the form about halfway down the homepage, or call 988-5672.

The tournament has been held at three different courses since its inception in 1996, Powell said.

“Riverchase Country Club is a great place to hold a tournament as the staff really goes out of the way to make sure our tournaments are successful,” he said.
