MT LAUREL – Spoonwood Mountain Lake is Mt Laurel’s private lake, but others will have an opportunity to experience its beauty during the Sunset Wine and Cheese Hike on Thursday, Sept. 21.

The hike is held by and benefits Coosa Riverkeeper, and is typically held twice a year—around the fall and spring equinoxes.

Attendees should plan to meet at 5:30 p.m. for socializing, and the hike will begin at 6 p.m.

The leisurely 1-mile hike will be guided by Coosa Riverkeeper staff who will talk about the native landscape and surrounding waterways.

Following the hike, wine, craft beer, cheese and other treats provided by Zoe’s Kitchen will be available as attendees take in the sunset at Spoonwood Mountain Lake.

“It’s very scenic—really, really pretty,” Coosa Riverkeeper Executive Director Justinn Overton said. “The lake is usually only open to residents, so this is a good opportunity for others to see it.”

Also, Coosa Riverkeeper staff will tell attendees about the organization, according to Overton.

Coosa Riverkeeper’s mission is to protect, restore and promote the Coosa River and its tributaries in Alabama.

Reservations are required.

Those unfamiliar with the lake should follow Mt Laurel Avenue to the Spoonwood Mountain Lake entrance, follow the signs and look for parking attendants.

About 20 or 30 people usually attend the hikes, Overton said.
