ALABASTER – Local canines and their owners will have a chance to enjoy plenty of dog-focused activities and fun at the Alabaster Parks and Recreation Department’s annual “Bark in the Park” event in early October.

Bark in the Park benefiting the Shelby County Humane Society will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Veterans Park off Alabama 119 on Saturday, Oct. 7.

Admission is free, but all dogs are required to be on a leash.

This year’s Bark in the Park will feature a vaccine clinic, pet microchipping, adoptable pets from the Shelby County Humane Society, a pet-focused vendor area, pet trick and costume contests, pet photos, kids’ activities, live music and food for both dogs and people.

This will mark the 11th anniversary for Alabaster’s Bark in the Park event, which has drawn thousands of pets and their owners over the years.

The first Bark in the Park was held in October 2007 after the city and the Shelby Humane Society partnered to create the pet-centered festival.
