Homer B. Coleman, Sr., age 82, of Chelsea, passed away Monday, Sept. 25.

The visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 29 at Union – The Church at Chelsea Park. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29 at the church with Rev. Henry Prater and Rev. John Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

Mr. Coleman was born the third son of John and Marjolyn Coleman. He graduated from Ensley High School and the University of Alabama with a degree in chemical engineering, where he was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. He retired from U.S. Steel after 32 years of service. He also was a lifelong Boy Scout, Leader of Troop 5, an Eagle Scout, and received the Silver Beaver award. Mr. Coleman was an Army veteran after serving his country as an Army Captain from 1959-1962 and was a member of Union – The Church at Chelsea Park.

Mr. Coleman is preceded in death by his parents, John and Marjolyn Coleman; and brothers, John and Edward Coleman.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Gardner Coleman; sons, Brad Coleman (Heather) and Michael Coleman (Anna); brothers, Hershel Coleman (Linda) and Charlie Coleman (Joy); numerous nephews, nieces, and friends; and special friends who were like family, John and Jill Hill; Noah, Sophie, and Graden Hill; Kadie West, and Kara Jayne.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Union- The Church at Chelsea Park.
