Wreck involving train, 18-wheeler shuts down Alabama 25

CALERA – A portion of Alabama 25 was closed on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 27, after an accident involving a train occurred near the border of Calera and Columbiana.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported that the wreck occurred when an 18-wheeler hit collided with a train on the tracks. The collision resulted in the derailment of several cars from the tracks.

According to a post on the Calera Police Department’s Facebook page, traffic will be detoured at Alabama 25 and Shelby County 42, as well as at Alabama 25 and Shelby County 97. Calera Police encouraged drivers to find an alternate route while the railroad crossing is undergoing repairs.

Both the SCSO and the Columbiana Police Department assisted the Calera PD with directing traffic. No deaths were reported.
