PELHAM – The Pelham Beautification Board recently announced the winners of the city’s Christmas decorations and lights display contest.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5, members of the Beautification Board journeyed through the city looking for residents and businesses with the best Christmas decorations and lights display.

Initially, city administrator Paula Holly said winners would be named in five categories – best residential, best business, best fire station, honorable mention and the Power Express winner – however, after viewing the lights displays throughout the city, more categories were added.

“We had to expand the categories because there were so many good entries,” Holly said.

The categories were expanded to include traditional lights and decorations winner and honorable mention, contemporary décor and lights winner and honorable mention, small commercial winner and honorable mention, large commercial winner and honorable mention, best nativity, Power Express winner and honorable mention and best fire station.

The Power Express award went to the resident with a lights display that goes above and beyond. This award is for the house best resembling Clark Griswold’s house from the movie “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”

Holly said all of the winners and honorable mentions were notified. In addition to sharing the photos of the winning businesses and homes on Facebook, Holly said they will also be shared on all of the city’s social media outlets. The winners in each category typically are honored during a January City Council meeting.
