Shelby Ridge hosting first Parenting Your Parents Workshop
ALABASTER – Rehab Select at Shelby Ridge will host its first Parenting Your Parenting Your Parents Workshop at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018. Shelby Ridge Rehab Liaison Kaitlin Candelaria said the workshop will teach community members how to care for their elderly relatives and will feature panel discussions on the stages of care for senior adults, transitional care options, senior safety and elder care law.
“Our hope is that, by attending this workshop, people can come away with a better idea of what to expect and how to be prepared when caring for the elderly,” Shelby Ridge Administrator Jeanine Shaw said in a press release.
According to Candelaria, many people find themselves unprepared after they have become the caregiver to an elderly relative.
“There was this huge need in the community,” Candelaria said. “So often we see people thrown into these situations after a loved one has had a heart attack or a fall.”
“People are finding themselves in emergency situations where they are having to make decisions very quickly when it comes to their loved ones’ care,” Shaw said.
Local vendors and resources will be onsite to provide additional information and assistance on the different aspects of senior care. Breakfast and a sack lunch will be provided, and those in attendance will also have the opportunity to win door prizes.
Candelaria said the workshop is free, but seating is limited and requires reservation. For more information about the Parenting Your Parents Workshop or to make reservations, contact Candelaria at 475-6714 or Kaitlin.Candelaria@rehabselect.net.
“We hope that people come away from the workshop feeling more educated and feeling like they would have a better grasp if an emergency were to arise,” Candelaria said.
