HELENA–After a sluggish first quarter, the Helena girls basketball team rebounded the rest of the way for a 43-30 win over Hueytown on senior night on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

After having seven seniors graduate from the program at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season, just two seniors were honored on Jan. 23, but both mean a great deal to their team and the Helena program.

Leading-scorer Jordan Jones and guard Brandis Lang were honored before the game and Helena head coach Alan Skinner praised the two for all they’ve accomplished in their time at Helena.

“I knew they were two pretty special kids the first day I got here,” Skinner said. “They have been put in a difficult situation this year for their senior year because we had seven seniors graduate last year. Those two, I love them like they’re my own and they let me coach them and they do the things that seniors do. They both have responded to things this season the way seniors should.”

As she’s done all season, Jones once again led the Huskies in scoring by finishing the game with 18 points to lead all scorers.

Helena outscored Hueytown 39-20 in the last three quarters despite going 0-16 beyond the 3-point line to get the double-digit win. The Huskies also played stout defense forcing 23 steals in the game.

Next up, Helena will face a tough test in the final area game of the regular season against Chelsea. The Huskies will travel to Chelsea on Friday, Jan. 26, to try and win the regular season area title.
