NORTH SHELBY – The Oak Mountain Middle School Parent-Teacher Organization is hosting the first Winter Soiree as a fundraiser for the school.

The event will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Inverness Country Club.

The Winter Soiree is sponsored by Southern Post, a retail business run by PTO President Allison Sinclair.

Tickets are available at the Southern Post website for $75 each by visiting SouthernPostAlabama.com.

Beth O’Meara with the PTO said the group decided to try this format for a fundraiser because it is expected to be less work intensive than other efforts, such as selling wrapping paper and fruit.

“What we have found is over the past few years, more parents are going back to work and we’re having a hard time getting parents to volunteer for things we’ve done in the past,” O’Meara said. “People are just hard-pressed for time now.”

Dinner will be catered by Inverness Country Club. Crab cakes, bacon-wrapped shrimp, beef sliders, BLT stacks and more will on the menu.

Desserts will be provided by Ashley Mac’s.

Attendees should dress in cocktail attire and will enjoy a live band in addition to dinner.

Also, a silent auction with items donated by local businesses and individuals will be opened on the night of the Winter Soiree and will continue until Feb. 14.

The auction will be conducted online. Look for details posted to the Southern Post website and the Facebook page “OMMS Life.”

O’Meara said the PTO hopes school supporters will enjoy this opportunity to help with no work required.

“Just come and enjoy yourself,” she said.
