Registration begins for Asbury soccer league

NORTH SHELBY – Asbury United Methodist Church is gearing up for another season of soccer.

Registration is under way for the co-ed spring soccer league, which is for children ages 4-9 as of April 1.

Practices begin the week of March 12, and games will be played on Sunday afternoons beginning April 8 and lasting through May 12.

All practices and games will be held at Asbury UMC’s new soccer fields.

“They are fabulous,” Asbury’s Ellen Dean said. “We’re very fortunate that they built us new fields.”

The fields were added to the church campus when construction began on a sanctuary facility that is being built on the site of the former fields.

Asbury now has five fields, compared to three previously, allowing for the inclusion of more children in the spring and fall soccer leagues.

About 150 children usually register, Dean said.

With eight to 10 children on each team, there are usually about 16 teams.

There are three age divisions, for ages 4, 5-6 and 7-9.

Registration costs $95 if completed before Feb. 26, or $105 after that date.

The registration fee includes game socks, a game T-shirt, game snacks and a picture package.

Those interested can register at AsburyOnline.org/soccer.
