Ola Mae Hosmer Horton
Ola Mae Hosmer Horton, was born in Lipscomb/Bessemer on July 3, 1925 to Joseph Leon Hosmer and Jessie Carroll Hosmer, with generations back to “First Families of America.” She labored as a cook at Montevallo Elementary School for 35 years, retiring at age 74.
We heartbreakingly announce her leaving our earthly world to join with her heavenly husband, Daniel Horton, to whom she was married 69 years. He was born Dec. 27, 1923 and passed Feb. 24, 2012.
She was preceded in passing by her parents; her daughter, Margaret Elaine Horton Murchison; son, Dannie Lee Horton; son-in-law, Elton Wilson; and grandson, Danny Weldon.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Kathryn Horton Wilson; daughter, Joyce Marie Horton Broadhead (Danny); son, John Daniel Horton; grandchildren, Cecil E. Weldon, Sr., Elaine Noerper, Theresa Coke, Tammy K. Henderson, Kathy R. Lucas, Barry Broadhead, Tina Broadhead, Brian Horton, and Jason Horton; 26 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 8 from 1-2 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). Her funeral service will begin at 2 p.m., with Jerry Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Moore’s Cemetery.
