James Olin “Buck” Beane, age 92, of Calera, passed away Thursday, April 19 at home with his daughters by his side.

The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 23 at Bolton Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 24 at the funeral home with Dr. Roy Rogers and Donna C. Smitherman officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

Mr. Beane was born in Montevallo on Dec. 22, 1925. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1942-1951 when he was honorable discharged as a Corporal. During his time in the Marines, he served in World War II. Mr. Beane worked for Blue Circle Cement for 38 years, then at Oak Mountain State Park for 10 years post retirement.

Mr. Beane is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Louise E. Beane; parents, Robert and Eunice Bean; brother, Otis Bean; sister, Pauline Bean Ellison; and son-in-law, Jack C. Bailey.

He is survived by his daughters, Janice B. Rachels and Donna Bailey both of Calera; grandchildren, Janatha Womack (David) of Norman, Oklahoma, Jason Rachels (Niki) of Calera, Misty Bailey Edwards (Jimbo) of Calera; grandson-in-law, Carey Thompson of Montevallo; great grandchildren, Zachary Thompson, Nicholas Thompson, Anna Thompson, Ashton Rachels, Jaxon Rachels, Andrew Thompson, Tyler Thompson, Emily Beth Thompson, and Jack Edwards; two granddogs, Lucie and Lizzie; and numerous nieces and nephews who knew him as “Uncle Buck.”

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Calera Fire Department, Comfort Care Hospice, Amy and Frank at Kindred at Home, Diann Winterbottom, Lynn Benton, Dr. Patrick Mills, Dr. Ozbin, and Dr. Larry Mikul for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and Heritage Church of the Nazarene (610 Dennis Street, Clanton, AL 35045).
