LANETT – Cornerstone Christian School dropped its first road game of the season Aug. 24, falling at Springwood School, 42-10.

“I thought the guys fought hard. I don’t think they ever quit. We’ve got to make some adjustments offensively right now,” said CCS head coach James Lee. “We’re better than what we showed tonight.”

The Chargers recovered a pooch kick to open the game and marched the ball down to the Wildcats’ 25 before Jace Bailey put Cornerstone on the board with a 42-yard field goal. They tried to pooch it again, but this time into the hands of Springwood, which later took advantage of the field position to take the lead, 7-0.

Springwood went up 21-3 by the end of the third quarter. In the second quarter, Nick Green rolled left for a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jake Blankenship, his fourth TD catch and fifth overall touchdown in two weeks. Bailey kicked the extra point to make it 21-10.

The Wildcats scored late in the half to carry a 28-10 lead into the locker room.

“We had a couple of injuries that kind of hindered us a little bit but we made some adjustments at halftime,” Lee said.

Both defenses held their opponent scoreless in the third quarter. The Wildcats added a pair of touchdowns late in the game after Lee pulled his starters.

Cornerstone (1-1) will travel to Crenshaw Christian Academy (1-1) on Aug. 31 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
