Joggers capture vehicle burglary suspects

HOOVER – A Riverchase resident and two friends on an early-morning run chased down and detained a suspect allegedly stealing items from the trunk of the victim’s vehicle.

Hoover police responded to the 1000 Block of Riverchase Parkway West at 4:57 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, on a report of a vehicle burglary in progress, according to a Hoover Police Department press release.

“The victim stated that he and two friends were on an early morning run when they caught a white male rummaging through the trunk of the victim’s vehicle,” the release stated. “The suspect attempted to run away but was captured and detained by the victim and his friends.”

Officers arrived on the scene and arrested the suspect without further incident, according to police.

The suspect’s vehicle was located in front of the victim’s residence, and a female passenger was also arrested.

Investigators recovered property taken from the Riverchase victim’s vehicle as well as property from other car break-ins in the area.

Gregory Alan Trott, 43, and Brianna Martinae Ross, 27, both of Birmingham, were transported to the Hoover City Jail and later to the Shelby County Jail.

Trott has been charged with two counts of unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, theft of property second degree (between $1,500-$2,500), theft of property first degree (exceeds $2,500).

He is being held on a $25,000 bond as of Aug. 27.

Ross was charged with unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle and posted $5,000 bond on Aug. 24.
